Create a Website Favicon Online

Want your website to have a recognizable icon in browser tabs? The Imagesmint favicon generator helps you turn an image or logo into a set of icons in different sizes without installing dedicated design software. You can preview the results, customize the background and rounded corners, and download the files in a ZIP package for use on your website.

A favicon helps people recognize a website in browser tabs, bookmarks, and other supported interfaces. For the best results, start with a simple symbol that reflects your brand. Fine details and small text can become difficult to recognize when an icon is displayed at a very small size.

How to create a favicon

  1. Upload an image or logo from your device.
  2. Select the icon sizes you need, such as 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, 180×180, or 256×256 pixels.
  3. Choose a background color or use transparency if your design requires it.
  4. Try the rounded-corners option and check the previews to make sure your design remains recognizable at smaller sizes.
  5. Download the ZIP package containing your selected PNG icons and an HTML snippet to help you add them to your website.

Which favicon sizes should you use?

The right icon size depends on where it will be displayed and which devices or interfaces you need to support. Smaller icons are useful in browser tabs, while some mobile interfaces require larger images. The generator lets you select several sizes so you can prepare a set of files for different uses.

If you want your favicon to be eligible for display in Google Search results, Google recommends using a square icon larger than 48×48 pixels. This is a useful starting point for creating a recognizable image, but following the size recommendation does not guarantee that Google will display your favicon. Other technical requirements also apply.

Can you use your existing website logo?

Yes. Your logo can be a good starting point, provided its main symbol remains clear when scaled down. If the original image is too large or contains excessive empty space around the logo, use the image resizer to prepare it before generating your icons.

This generator creates PNG favicon files. If your website or workflow specifically requires an ICO file, you can use the image to ICO converter as a follow-up step. You can also prepare an image in another format with the image format converter.

After downloading the package, upload the icon files to the appropriate location on your website and add the relevant favicon links inside the HTML <head> section. Creating the files is only one part of the process: the paths must be correct, and the files must be accessible for browsers and search engines to retrieve them.
