Get the Right Image Orientation with Precise Rotation Controls
A photo may need only a small adjustment to look right, while a graphic may need to be mirrored or tilted for a particular layout. The Imagesmint Rotate Image tool lets you make these changes in your browser, preview the result, and download the processed image without opening a desktop editing application.
Rotation, mirroring, and background options
Choose the adjustment that matches your goal:
- Rotate left or right: Turn the image by 90 degrees with a single click.
- Set a custom angle: Use the slider to choose an angle from 0 to 359 degrees.
- Flip horizontally: Mirror the image from side to side.
- Flip vertically: Reverse the image from top to bottom.
- Fill the empty corners: Choose a background color, enter a HEX color value, or select transparency.
The tool accepts JPG, PNG, and WebP images. Its preview updates as you adjust the settings, and the results panel displays the output dimensions and file size before you download the image.
Why rotation can change the canvas size
A quarter-turn often swaps the image's width and height. At other angles, such as 15 or 45 degrees, the rotated image needs a larger bounding area to keep the entire image visible. The output dimensions can therefore differ from the original dimensions, and empty areas may appear around the rotated image.
You can control those areas through the background settings. Choose a solid color when you want a filled background, or choose transparency when the image needs transparent corners. Transparent output is exported as PNG so that the transparent areas can be retained.
A practical workflow
- Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image.
- Use the 90-degree rotation buttons or move the angle slider to set the orientation.
- Apply a horizontal or vertical flip if needed.
- Choose the background treatment for any empty corners.
- Check the updated preview, output dimensions, and file size.
- Download the finished image.
Choose the right output for your project
When transparency is selected, the result is saved as PNG. Otherwise, the tool normally retains PNG or WebP when one of those was the source format; a JPG source is exported as JPEG. Because the image is drawn onto a canvas and exported again, the output is a newly rendered image file rather than an untouched copy of the original file.
This makes the tool useful for correcting a sideways product photo, preparing an image for a webpage, mirroring a visual for a layout, or adjusting the angle of a graphic. If the rotated image needs different dimensions, continue with the Image Resizer. For a mirror effect without rotation, use the Flip Image tool. To convert the finished image to another supported format, try the Image Format Converter.
Common questions
How do I rotate a picture by 90 degrees?
Upload the image and select Rotate Left or Rotate Right. Preview the new orientation, then download the result when processing finishes.
Can I rotate an image by 45 degrees?
Yes. Move the custom-angle slider to choose the required value within the available range of 0 to 359 degrees.
How do I avoid white corners after rotation?
Open the background options and choose transparency or a different background color. To preserve transparent corners in the downloaded file, select the transparent option, which exports the result as PNG.
Does flipping an image do the same thing as rotating it?
No. Rotation changes the angle of the image, whereas flipping mirrors it horizontally or vertically. You can use either operation independently.
Why can’t the tool process my large image?
The maximum source file size is 100 MB, but safe processing also depends on image dimensions, pixel count, and browser memory. If the image exceeds the supported limits, try a smaller file or reduce its dimensions with the Image Resizer.
Are images uploaded to the Imagesmint server?
The image is processed locally in your browser and stays on your device during editing. You can download the resulting image once the preview and export are ready.
